A Missives from An Tir’s Minister of Children

Greetings and Salutations unto the youth’s of An Tir,
The winter has been long and spring is now in full bloom it is time for us to gather together to renew friendships from past tournament seasons and to meet new friends at the start of this tournament season..

Come display your skills on and off the combat field.

Compete in youth combat and also show your skills in the Arts and Sciences competition.

Listen to our Mighty King Skeggi spin a tale of bygone days for the pleasure of our younger youths. Those gentle youths of Pied Piper age.

I’m looking forward to seeing you at May Crown 2005.

Saturday 21 May 2005

List opens and armor inspections begins at 9:00 AM
** A parent must be present at inspection

List and Inspection Closes 10:30 AM

Tournament starts immediately following Close of Invocation
* a parent of youth combatant must be present during tournament

Arts and Science Competition 2:30 PM

Youth’s Arts and Science Competition



The Arts and Science competition is open to all youths from age 5 to 17.
The competition will be divided into 2 age groups: age 5 to 11 and ages 12 to 17 prize to be given for each age group.

RULES: Entries must be period or SCA specific
Documentation is not required but is encouraged and extra points will be given for those that provided their documentation.
Work must be done by youths, parents may lend some assistance to their youth’s entry, at least 98% should be by the youth’s own hands.
All youths must be present as they need to present their entry and be available for the Judges to describe their entry and how they made it.

YOUTH ARMORED COMBAT




Boffer Tournament (ages 12-17) will be held on Saturday May 21,2005
Double Elimination Tournament Rules
AND
Boffer Tournament (ages 6-11) following the Senior Boffer Tournment

List Opens and Armor inspections begins at 9:00 AM

List and Inspection Closes 10:30 AM

Tournament starts Immediately following the Close of Involcation
Tournament Prize to the Tournament Winner and Most Chivalrous Fighter For Both Tournaments


YOUTH COMBAT RULES (BOFFER) RULES:
A Parent/Guardian Must be with youth for List sign in and armor inspection and waivers signing.

The Tournament will operate under the NEW rules and conventions of the An Tir Book of Boffer January, A.S.XXXVI Edition. The NEW rules can be found on the An Tir Kingdom web site under Combat Shelf.

PLEASE READ THEM BEFORE THE TOURNAMENT

Under the New rules "The requirements for Boffer shall be the same as An Tir Book of Combat requirements for Heavy Combat, differing only in that equipment need not be constructed of carbon steel" armor and blow-calling emulates heavy fighting while the foam-covered PVC weapons and lighter blow strength ensures safety of the combatants.
In essence, the Boffer combat mimics Adult Heavy Armored Combat, except the weapons are foam and PVC.

ARMOR: needed for both male and female groin protection, rigid sports cups this is a MUST. We do not
provide loaner sport cups.

NECK: gorget required 2-3 inch leather collar with padding, Suggested:same quality as heavy fighter.

HANDS: Must be covered be covered with leather gloves or hockey gloves

KNEES AND ELBOWS: Rigid protection,street hockey style or equivalent.

FEET: heavy leather shoes, No Open Toed Sandals or Barefeet.

BODY ARMOR: Thick Padded Gambeson, Ridge Sternum, and Ridge Kidney Protection. Female are required to have rigid chest protection.

HELMET: Hockey/street hockey style with grill, with attached drapes/camails.

WEAPONS: Please read the instructions on the An Tir Combat Boffer website.

We do have some loaner equipment. Parents please contact Tournament Marshal in Charge for any questions you may have prior to event. This is not a training session this is a Tournament. All fighters must know the rules of combat.

Youth Combat Tournament (Boffer) for ages 6 to 11 will follow the above Senior Youth Combat Tournament.
These youths will be matched up by age and size. Same rules for tournament apply for this age group.
List check in and equipment check is at the same time as the Senior Youth Combatants.
